The Importance of Zinc for Men's Health

Posted by Ashley Besecker on

Men need 11 milligrams of Zinc per day.

Why is Zinc Important?

Zinc is an essential mineral that is tied to the activity of over 100 enzymes, wound healing, DNA synthesis, and cell division!

How Much Zinc Do Men Need?
Men need 11 milligrams of Zinc per day. 3 oz of  Alaskan King Crab contains 6.5 mg of zinc… that’s 60% of your daily value in just a few bites! Other great sources include Dungeness Crab (4.7 mg in 3 oz), Spot Prawns (1.39 mg in 3 oz), Weathervane Scallops (1.55 mg in 3 oz), and Wild Sockeye Salmon (0.9 mg in 6 oz)

Zinc Insufficiency or Deficiency:
Since Zinc is more bioavailable in seafood and animal proteins, those that are vegetarian or vegan can require up to 50% more of the recommended daily intake. Zinc insufficiency or deficiency can lead to hair loss, impotence, lowered immune function.

Too Much Zinc:
Getting zinc through your food and not overdoing supplements is important. The upper limit for Zinc intake is 40mg per day, so be sure not to overdo a good thing.
